Size guide
Measure first, then pick the roll, the spline and, for panels, the frame size. All sizes in inches and feet.
Cane webbing: width and length
For a pressed seat, measure the groove from outside edge to outside edge both ways and add 2 in each way. For stapled doors and panels, add at least 1 in on every side of the opening.
| Project | Measure | Add | Roll to pick |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dining chair seat | Groove to groove, e.g. 15 x 14 in | 2 in each way: 17 x 16 in | 18 in wide, 3.3 ft long (two seats) |
| Small stool or child chair | Groove to groove, e.g. 11 x 11 in | 2 in each way: 13 x 13 in | 14 in wide, 3.3 ft long |
| Chair back | Opening, e.g. 12 x 9 in | 2 in each way: 14 x 11 in | 14 in wide, 3.3 ft long |
| Cabinet door insert | Opening, e.g. 11 x 21 in | 1 in each side: 13 x 23 in | 14 in wide, 5 ft long (two doors) |
| Pair of tall doors | Opening, e.g. 16 x 34 in | 1 in each side: 18 x 36 in | 18 in wide, 10 ft long |
| Queen headboard | Opening, e.g. 58 x 22 in | 1 in each side: 60 x 24 in | 24 in wide, 5 ft long |
These are worked examples: always use your own measurements. The width of the roll must cover the short side of your piece.

Measure the groove with the shank of a drill bit or calipers. Buy by groove width, not by the number alone: a few suppliers number spline differently. Full chart
Made-to-size panels
Online: 6 to 48 in wide and 6 to 72 in tall, in 1/4 in steps. Enter the size the finished panel should be; for a door insert measure the opening or rabbet it sits in. Bigger sizes, or more than 10 panels, by trade quote.
