Every roll is measured before it ships. Natural material: color and grain vary. Soak about 30 minutes before use.

This is open weave natural rattan cane webbing, with small octagonal holes, on long continuous rolls for people who cut cane every week: furniture makers, upholsterers, interior designers and repair shops. At 50 or 100 ft you can cut seats, doors and panels as jobs come in, instead of buying a short roll for each one.

We measure each roll before it leaves, so you can plan a job around the footage you ordered.

A long roll of a natural material is not uniform from end to end. The color drifts gradually along its length. When pieces have to match, such as a set of dining chairs, a run of kitchen doors or a pair of headboards, cut the whole job from one roll, and take the pieces one after another from the same section rather than from opposite ends.

Working from a long roll:

  • Unroll only what you need and keep the rest rolled firmly; trim off any loose strands at the cut end.
  • Store the roll somewhere dry, away from direct sun and heaters. Cane that dries out too far turns brittle, and cane kept damp can mildew.
  • Never wrap damp cane in plastic for storage.
  • Cut each piece to size before soaking, then soak only that piece for about 30 minutes in warm water and fit it shiny side out.

If you need another width, a different weave, or the same roll on a regular basis, send us your details through the trade form, with the widths, weaves and quantities you use.

How to choose

Choose the width by the largest piece you cut regularly. A seat piece is the groove-to-groove opening with 2 in or more added in both directions, so seats measuring up to 16 in across the short side come out of the 18 in roll, and up to 22 in out of the 24 in roll. Cabinet doors need the opening plus at least 1 in per side. Headboards, screens and tall doors with an opening up to 34 in across call for 36 in.

For length, 50 ft suits a shop that canes now and then. 100 ft makes sense when cane is part of every week's work, and it gives you a longer stretch of similar color for matching sets.

Questions

Can I get another width or weave as a trade roll?

The rolls listed here are open weave in 18, 24 and 36 in. For anything else, use the trade form and tell us the width, weave and quantity you need.

Will the color match from one end of the roll to the other?

Not exactly. Natural cane shifts slowly in color along a long roll, so cut each matching set from neighboring sections of one roll.

How should I store an opened roll?

Keep it rolled, dry, out of direct sun and away from heaters. Do not seal damp cane in plastic.

Do I soak the whole roll?

No. Cut each piece to size first and soak only that piece, about 30 minutes in warm water. The rest of the roll stays dry until you need it.
