Cane Webbing Sheet Cut to Your Size, Unframed, 3 Weaves
Natural cane webbing cut to the exact width and height you enter, up to 36 x 72 in, in open, square or herringbone weave, with a drawing to approve first.
Every roll is measured before it ships. Natural material: color and grain vary. Soak about 30 minutes before use.
A sheet of natural rattan cane webbing cut to the exact width and height you enter, with no frame. It is the piece you staple and glue behind an existing cabinet door, a screen or a frame you have built, or press into the groove of a chair seat.
Type the width and height into the calculator, from 6 to 36 in wide and 6 to 72 in long in 1/4 in steps, and pick the weave. The price updates as you type, and that is the price at checkout. Before we cut, we email you a drawing with the final dimensions to approve, so a mistyped number gets caught while it is still easy to fix.
How to work out the size:
- Behind a door or frame: measure the opening and add at least 1 in on every side, so 2 in to the width and 2 in to the height. That margin is what you staple and glue.
- Pressed chair seat: measure groove to groove (outside edge to outside edge) across the widest part, then front to back, and add 2 in each way.
- When in doubt, round up. Extra cane trims off in a minute; a sheet that comes up short cannot be saved.
The cut edges are left raw. That is normal: they end up hidden behind the frame, under trim or down in the groove.
Soak the sheet in warm water for about 30 minutes before you fit it. Wet cane bends without cracking and gives a little; as it dries it shrinks and pulls tight. Keep the shiny side facing out.
How to choose
Open weave is the traditional pattern on pressed cane chair seats, so pick it when you are restoring a chair or matching other caned pieces. Square weave is a simple grid that suits cabinet doors and screens with straight, modern lines. Herringbone is close-woven, which hides what is behind it and gives a cabinet a solid, textured front.
Choose this sheet over a precut size when your opening plus margin falls between our standard sheets, or when one side is longer than 36 in, so you are not paying for cane you will trim away.
Questions
Will the cut edges come apart?
A few loose strands right at the edge are normal on raw-cut cane. Once the sheet is stapled, glued or locked in a groove, the edge is held and out of sight.
Do I soak it for a cabinet door too?
Yes. Soak it about 30 minutes in warm water and staple it while damp. It tightens as it dries, which pulls out small sags.
Can I paint or stain it?
Paint works better than stain. The glossy face resists stain, so color goes on unevenly; try either one on a trimmed-off scrap first.
What if I type the wrong size?
You will see the size again on the drawing we email before cutting. Tell us the correct numbers then, and nothing is cut until you approve.
